be open and scott brown could have another shot at getting into the senate. i don't think that would be the worst thing in the world for the president, especially since we picked up seats this time around. scott brown, as a republican who may actually across the aisle, could actually serve as a useful political tool for the president. that will be interesting to watch. the other one, of course, is treasury secretary time geithner leaving. one of the outside names that's been floated is cheryl sandberg, coo of facebook. she's the first one and she's had a terrific choice. another name i haven't heard but my virginia centrist byas leads me to bring up is mark warner, senator from virginia, great businessman, has bipartisan appeal. i think he could be strong as well. the last one that's opening up is chief of staff, jennifer g n granholm apparently she is -- >> yes. >> apparently they really want to get her in in some position. >> more jenny g. >> the energy, cheerleading. >> unrelenting positive vibe and energy. >> for jenny g. >> i'd like to get rahm back. not a possibility. >> kerry

on the vote tally in arizona and senator scott brown is hinting at his political future. first as new members make their way to capitol hill, allen west continues to fight for his seat. west has now filed a complained in st. lucie county yesterday calling for a recount of all the early ballots in the race. west trails patrick murphy by 0.58% and according to state law an automatic recount is needed only when a difference in votes is 0.5% or less so not at that threshold. west told nbc, quote, i think that we need to have the electoral process play out as it should, and then wherever the results lie, that's fine with me. but i want to make sure we have honor and integrity in that process. meanwhile, on the hill yesterday democrats held a press conference to introduce incoming members of congress and the house minority leader nancy pelosi addressed murphy as congressman elect. the only nonsitting member to speak. >>> meanwhile, out in arizona there are 340,000 ballots that have yet to be counted in the senate race between richard carmona and jeff flake. carmona did concede on election night whe

anybody who was brown or black. bemis practically anybody who believes that immigration is an issue that needs to be tackled. you had a case here where the republican party right now is stampeding toward irrelevance. if they do not catch up with everything in the national journal, there is changing demographics. you cannot have a ruling coalition that is virtually all white. you had president obama yesterday put together this new ascendant coalition, put it back together from 2008 and enough of the democratic coalition so you have this combination of hispanics, more than 70% of hispanics, young voters, people who both want to twice as a democrat. they're likely to remain a dealt crack -- democrat. republicans, what they're missing is the idea of trying to expand their percentage of a shrinking electorate. like it or not, this is becoming a majority minority nation and the republican party, this is the last time republicans will have a chance at winning the presidency with this kind of electoral strategy. >> let's talk about why this happened. some of it was issues, some of it was th

political problem. the notion scott brown would be a frontrunner to replace kerry if he were to tep out of that seat. the democrats have a little more cushion but not a seat that democrats would want to put in jeopardy and that's a mark against kerry. you also have someone very good in the senate in jack reed from rhode island who a lot think would be a great defense secretary. they have options. again to go to chuck hagel, strong people out there for both these jobs. they will fill them well one way or the other. >> and one point, chuck hagel is, of course, ray lahood was a republican but i think ray is probably going to leave as well. chuck hagel would be a great appointment and he's best suited for defense. wouldn't you agree with that? >> i think that's probably right. >> if you have reached a consensus on it -- >> chuck it is. >> i have decided not to leave this position for secretary of defense. i hate to say it now, ahead of the actual -- >> who would be better to take on the military end strum stril complex than you. >> we have to go to break. president obama turns mitt romney's

last thing. scott brown is replaced by elizabeth warren. olympia snowe replaced by an independent. herb cole replaced by tammy baldwin. the pattern in all of those is that it's a more conservative person in the senate replaced by a less conservative person in the senate. maybe fine lines, but that's the pattern in all of them. is one of the kons chemical weapons that democrats might reform the filibuster? >> i hope so. two ideas i'd throw out there. to get rid of it on the motion to proceed. that would reduce everything in half the time we spend on bills. the second, require these people to stand and speak. make them stand and speak. you could have a filibuster clock on your show. it would be mesmerizing. not really actually. people would hate it. they would hate that two people would hold up one judge in illinois. that's what we're seeing. if those senators are held accountable by making them actually stand and filibuster, it would make a difference. the american people will see it. there could be other reforms as well. i put those out there as doable and something that could make a hu

question about how you spend your money. if i gave a lot of money to the effort to beat brown in ohio, i want to know how did we spend $20 million in unanswered media against someone who is clearly in all the pulling of the beginning was in a tough race and he won. how did we spend $20 million to $30 million in an intermediate against tammy baldwin in wisconsin and did not win? i think it may be that they just did not spin it right or ineffectively or that the old traditional tools where we put up -- i was in wisconsin the last weekend and i was watching my tv and it was sort of a pretty traditional grainy pictures of tammy and liberal, liberal and liberal and best friend of nancy pelosi and blah blah blah. obviously, it did not work. maybe the traditional people in either party who tell us to buy all of this broadcast tv are wasting people's money. the millionaires and billionaires to put money into these things will ask that question. what exactly did you spend my money doing and why didn't it work? >> i think i generally agree. there are a couple or three silos. people will be constru
